LM 21 installed both mawk and gawk, with gawk as the default /usr/bin/awk. Hooray!
LM 22 installs only mawk. Boo!
Almost every non-Debian based distro uses gawk.
Many "awk" code snippets on the web will not work with mawk.
I found out the hard way many years ago.
For this reason, I always install gawk on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint systems.
Debian chose mawk in 1997 because mawk was significantly faster than 1997 gawk.
Today's gawk is almost as fast as mawk.
mawk is essentially abandonware these days.
Just wondering why LM 22 went back to mawk.
Was it a conscious decision or more like "oops, we forgot to put gawk in the install list."
I can't find anything in change logs or bug reports.
