Substitutions for link attribute in sphinx-design cards

I have the following setup

include.layout

.. |Entry Point| replace:: path/to/the/file.html

and the main layout index.rst

.. include:: path/to/include/include.layout

.. grid:: 1

   .. grid-item-card:: My Card
      :link: |Entry Point|
      
      Some text

when using sphinx-design cards feature.

When rendering the document to HTML I would expect that |Entry Point| in :link: will be replaced by path/to/the/file.html, but it stays at this placeholder value.
Is that a bug? Can it be easily fixed (I'm willing to contribute a fix for that)?
