Losing access to a well-established GitHub profile is every developer's worst nightmare in my opinion. I had over 200 projects and nearly 10,000 commits on my GitHub account, built over the past 3-4 years. On August 15th, at 3:16 AM, I received an email from GitHub about a suspicious login. "Out of abundance of caution", they reset my password and sent me a link to reset it. I've also attached screenshot of their email.
When I followed the link and tried to reset my password, I didn’t receive any password reset email. I tried again, only to find out that my account had been "flagged" and deactivated.
I immediately submitted a request for GitHub to review the account deactivation. They responded with a ticket ID (2940424) and a confirmation email. But it's been 1.5 months now, and I haven't received any updates. There's no way for me to check the status of the ticket either. How difficult would it be for GitHub to send a simple status update? Or better yet, create a portal where we could track ticket progress ourselves?
I understand the community can’t resolve account issues, but I hope this raises awareness about GitHub’s customer support. Maybe they could consider setting up a system that helps users keep track of their cases.
Has anyone been through this? Is there any chance I’ll be able to recover my account? At this point, I’m starting to lose hope.
