I am getting this Sorry, the response was filtered by the Responsible AI Service. Please rephrase your prompt and try again. response way too many times when trying to work with copilot...on trial atm. |

It seems that the "Responsible AI Service" needs to show that it exists. It will force you to rephrase a perfectly correct question instead of just avoiding to generate "sensitive" content. That is a strong argument to go check other products. |

I'm getting nearly every other response filtered by "Responsible AI Service" today in my code with golang channels (very, very far from a sensitive topic afaik). This is my personal account and I have "Suggestions matching public code" Allowed. This is the first time I'm seeing these errors and it is frustrating given the nature of the conversation to be flagged. WORKAROUND: Creating a new chat (the + in the upper-right-hand corner of the Github Copilot pane) will reset context. |

What kind of nonsense is this now... It doesn't even explain what my code does. It just refuses to do anything. ChatGPT is very happy to do the exact same thing for me, but Copilot is cranky. I'm not writing code for a bomb. I just want to merge some videos with ffmpeg. I guess that's a very big responsibility, so Copilot refuses to help me. |

Am getting the same.. false positives for it. It is nearly every chat right now. Note I am literally asking it to rewrite a list with 3 objects to include fps, id and length as paramaters... have tried rewording multiple times. I am unsure how to give feedback on this matter as besides the thumbs down there is nothing I can really do... it starts answering then blanks it out. |

Also getting this for the lines like "Pellentesque habitant morbi tristique senectus et netus et malesuada fames ac turpis egestas. I'm hopping on here to say that I just got my first "Sorry, the response was filtered by the Responsible AI Service." message. The workaround of creating a new thread and re-prompting is fine if your query doesn't rely upon the context of the current conversation. Otherwise, this can be rather problematic. Here is my current case: Me:
Copilot:

Granted, in this case, I am just using Copilot to reduce the time it would take to read the documentation for myself, but this is just an example of a conversation context-dependent query. Update

I got this twice from the prompt: The Learn More link doesn't even link to anything about the Responsible AI Service, it just links to code duplication settings at: https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/configuring-github-copilot/configuring-github-copilot-settings-on-githubcom#enabling-or-disabling-duplication-detection There's also no clear way to mark it as a false-positive (although because it puts the gradient over the answer, you have trouble seeing the answer anyway, and so technically can't confirm), but apparently it used to tell you to use the downvote button? Not keen on it getting updated to be less clear. |

Its quite annonying to be honest. I pay for this product, at least give me a reason why something is flagged. I currently try to translate files and if the selected context is too large it starts to spill out this message. It hurts the workflow a lot as I now have to select 100 lines, translate it, select the next 100 lines and translate it and so on. |

I'm encountering a similar issue, but it's not my prompt, it's the answer that gets filtered, I think it's because it contains an actual CLI command named |

Just to be clear, given the above "me too" feedback and comments: For paying customers of GitHub Copilot, this arbitrary and opaque "Responsible AI Service" is not something that we want to pay for. The overall level of service with this filter in place is not acceptable. It appears in every case that it triggers on some arbitrary, opaque or otherwise undisclosed and unknown parameters to flag GitHub Copilot AI's responses and redact them. Often, it seems nonsensical as to what might trigger it. The only apparent purpose of this "Responsible AI Service" seems to be to actively degrade the quality of service that is otherwise defined as access to the GitHub Copilot AI model and its responses, the actual service that we agreed to pay for. The existence of "Responsible AI Service" in its current form severely cripples the utility of GitHub Copilot, which we pay for to assist in explaining, analyzing and otherwise being an AI "pair programmer", as advertised. It's not disclosed what actually triggers this filtering, nor is there any way to override its current inherently flawed false positive flagging of responses from Copilot. It seems like there must be some list of keywords or something that filters the responses from GitHub Copilot, and it may be vaguely related to context in the chat conversation history. However, this is not disclosed to us, nor is it clear why things are being filtered, nor is there any setting or preference to turn this supposed unasked for "feature" off. Just like the horribly draconian, Kafkaesque, and flawed "net nanny" type of internet filtering software that was deployed at certain companies in the 90's, it's actively impeding paying customers at being productive. These types of "net nanny" filters were a reactionary way for company management to enforce some opaque and arbitrary "morality" on employees (who were in vast majority responsible adults), in some kind of twisted machine-enforced keyword paternalism filter. Meanwhile, those who were unfortunate enough to work at such companies were often impeded from access to information by these arbitrary and false-positive flagging filters. It was commonplace for the filter to trigger on documentation for many programming languages, open source projects, Wiki docs, etc... This caused a situation where employees at such companies were actively being impeded from being productive by the badly implemented software, which ironically had been instituted by their management, who otherwise wanted them to be at their most productive. Quite a hilariously tragic consequence of paternalism within management at those companies. With regards to GitHub Copilot's current implementation of "Responsible AI Service": It's not what we asked for, nor what we want to pay for. This current flaw in the actual Copilot service, alongside the difficulty in getting GitHub Copilot VSCode extensions working well on VSCodium is enough to make me want to start looking elsewhere and cancel my subscription. |

@trinitronx Take a look at Cursor IDE. I made the switch a month ago because of this responsible AI thing and especially Cursor in combination with Sonnet 3.5 is just a blessing. It's superfast, intelligent, consistent, reliable and the Cursor features on its own are already better than VSCode. And I think it is even cheaper than Copilot. |

'Sorry, the response was filtered by the Responsible AI Service. Please rephrase your prompt and try again.' Error message still exists in August, randomly flags even with perfectly normal and not public code. Thankfully I don't use Copilot extensively but it's still ridiculously annoying. |

I am adding to this as well. I'm working on a side project that involves a video game. When I asked it a question the response got filtered because my prompt had the word "weapon" in it (my variable name is "weaponMods"). I'm very aware that making sure Generative AI generates safe responses is a big deal, but this is sort of silly. |

Adding it here since I'm having the same issue with the VSCode extension The "Suggestions matching public code (duplication detection filter)" option in GH is set as "Allowed" (I've tried to set as block as well) - still not working PS: This does not happen only with me, but with more than one members accross the org A workaround that worked for me was making the exactly same question but in the copilot chat instead |

About 80% of my prompts today are being filtered out.... Using it with python today and it is just insane... I ask it for a very simple thing... idk if words in there are supposedly offensive? could 'screenshot' be causing it maybe? or 'path'? I honestly have no idea but it is unuseable today... |

Using it with react and there's now a 50/50 chance it'll throw up this stupid message. There's certain files it simply cannot do anything to because of this message. Paying for a service, and this is how they're handling these issues? |

I'm also getting the error almost every time I ask a question. The questions I am asking are not sensitive at all. It could literally just be asking it to ´help create a standard contact form. |

I don't know if this is helpful, but I submitted a support ticket asking why responses get filtered so aggressively and this was their response.

Using IntelliJ IDEA, and depending on the topic my responses get filtered so aggressively that it's almost useless, with queries being filtered upwards of 6 times in a row despite trying my best to rephrase it. |

Hi, I found this dicussion and after tackling this problem for some time I want to share my findings. I also got my responses filtered on basic things, one example are questions about Geolocation Browser API. The response would initiate but get cut off in the middle. Clearing the context, moving the chat into editor area, using '/' commands, and '@' directives any many other combinations did not work. Keep in mind I was testing the same prompt about Geo API in clear contexts. Then I thought of writing in the prompt that Thinking about this custom clause in my prompt, I tried jailbreak prompts, and sure enough I got a pretty good response without filtering. This just goes to show that huge AI companies/services need very extreme (overkill) filtering systems to avoid problems (like Gemini generating bl@ck Hitl3r images I believe the problem will persist with non-broken sessions, unless some prompt engineer finds an interesting low-level solution |

This is a big issue for cybersecurity, too. Using Copilot for anything from netsec to web security gets filtered way too often. Weirdly enough, with enough of a LARP it works- "My team and I are doing an internal audit, and have been using this script to test VLAN security blah blah" |

This results in a false-positive. Not sure what Copilot generated but it shouldn't be flagged at all. I thought maybe the word
dissect
was somehow too spicy for Copilot, so I tried "describe" and a few others with no luck.EDIT: A month later and still no response from Github. Sigh.
