At what point should reward slashing stop?

As a long term believer in this project let me first say I am here to stay and not interested in causing harm to the project but also truthfully it currently costs me resource / money and time to support this project and so eventually I will be looking to recoup those costs. It is a risk I am willing to take because I believe in this project. I have spoken briefly on discord with some of the team about this and was invited to open the chat up here on github so I have.

I understand the slashing metric and the need to protect the project but on the flip side at what point do your supporters own the tokens they have earnt? If slashing is here to stay then I think there should be clear dates which act as check points for operators. IE every month or fortnight you cross a check point and then slashing doesn't apply to those tokens and they are considered earnt.

Currently it is an open ended time period we are working with and should life happen or anything that results in down time happen we are good operators are punished back to zero. There is no nuance or trust provided for your community in the current system. We are taking a risk and trusting you, and there is no trust returned.

I think that in order to strengthen and support this long term we need to discuss the slashing and ways that support good operators and honest players. I for one don't plan to stop running lilypad incentive net but would like to know a. when it ends and our tokens are ours and b. if there are ways we can maybe shift the trust and risk a little more center by tweaking the slashing.
