Description of issue

I'm experiencing the exact issue described in https://github.com/orgs/Homebrew/discussions/4135. Not sure if I should just comment there instead of starting a new discussion, but seeing as that discussion ended over a year ago, and should have been resolved, I'm starting a new one.
