This is the code I wrote while following the documentation and I got the error. I found this issue was previously closed on issue. #1691.

Update:

I tried copying code step by step from the documentation to receive the same error again. I can be sure of having issue in this section as commenting out layout removes the error.

This is the function I reference above to pinpoint error:

I think the data to be used in layouts has to be returned by that key from the query function in screens. You are returning the wrong data. Read the quickstart CRUD.

This helped me solve it:

So, for anyone looking for a solution on why above code does not work and may have got stuck on this problem while closely following the docs, here is why:

//Correction for above problem
public function query(): array
    {
        return [
            'product_categories' =>ProductCategory::paginate(),
        ];
    }

return expects table name. This was what caused me some issue later on.

I think we can use any key name, and particular table name is not required as key. Important part is to use the specified key only to get the data in the layout.
