I wonder that we support only Python 3.8 like stated in the README.md. I though we should support 3.8 up to a pretty recent version? Will that come with #148?

No, it will come with the next release (2.1.0). main already contains this migration to 3.11, but since this is not yet released, it is not displayed in the README.md.
