I want to fork a snapshot and mount it as a dataset so I can make changes to it. I would typically discard the fork at some point.

I want the original dataset to be active and accessible the entire time.

It would be cool to have the ability to promote a fork to its own dataset, which would cause the trunk to split and you would have two independent datasets, but this is not needed for my use case.
