The original navigation bar was based on user intention (Choose, Contribute, Organize and Track). Isolating each feature makes the application more comprehensive. Smoothie should feel like a user friendly tool, users come with a specific task in mind, thus having all the features displayed on a home page similar to a feed seem irrelevant.

I think the problem with the old design with the navigation bar was that you always landed on the choose page which looks good but has no real use. The current homepage can also display other information such as the products last seen.

I think compare describes better what the goal of choose is. I think the best way is to go back to the navigation bar later but replace choose with the homepage because the choose feature actually only takes part in the scanner

UX-wise, I don't see the point of the navigation bar if it's only to add buttons that lead to a "sorry, work in progress" screen.
I think the app will be confusing enough when we actually put back the concepts of pantry and shopping list.

As said before I think instead of one "smoothie" app we could build several apps, each with a clear goal.
I mean, this app development started about one year ago. I know we're starting with flutter and that may explain why we are sometimes slow, but as the goal is not clear, we spend energy going back and forth with the same questions:

At this point, it was a get together. We didn't delve into choices, but the 2 options were indeed evolving smoothie or starting something new, each with pros and cons.

@monsieurtanuki, of course, a work in progress screen is not a solution, but I don't see multiple apps as a solution either.
Track is perhaps the only thing that could be encapsulated from the main app. Choose and Organize are in my opinion too small for a separate app and organize makes no sense as a single app, if you are in the store and see a product that is not yet available, you should add it without much effort. Having to download a new app for that leads to a small group of core contributors and thats is what smoothie was supposed to fix
