Last year we used the following amounts for the PlanningAlerts campaign:

  • 5
  • 15
  • 150
  • 500

and the following amounts for the general campaign:

  • 10
  • 25
  • 100
  • 500

For the PA campaign the amounts that people actually donated fell like this:

  • 79% of the revenue was made by donations of $50 or more
  • 51% of the revenue was made by donations of $100 or more
  • 35% of the revenue was made by donations of $150 or more

For the general campaign the amounts fell like this:

  • 82% of the revenue was made by donations of $100 or more
  • 53% of the revenue was made by donations of $200 or more

Looking at the top end of the donations, almost nobody donated over 500 for PA, while for OAF there were several donations over $500. I think there we should leave the top end unchanged for PA and increase the top end to $1000 for the general campaign.

The average donation size is about double for the general campaign compared to PA. I think the default donation sizes should reflect that.

My suggested default donation amounts for PA:

  • 10
  • 50
  • 250
  • 500

And for the general campaign:

  • 50
  • 100
  • 500
  • 1000

For PA thinking instead:

  • 15
  • 50
  • 150
  • 500
which is basically just removing the bottom amount (5) and adding 50. It keeps the middle numbers bunched more around 100 which I think is better
