The device datasheet should have a section that specifies the rate at which it produces or accepts read and write frames, respectively. In the same way that frame bit-field definitions allows software to interpret data within frames, this information could allow the software to calculate an automatically select ONI_OPT_BLOCKREADSIZE and ONI_OPT_BLOCKWRITESIZE values from some set to prevent overflow while providing acceptable latency performance.
