Support for decoding/loading avif images?

Hello,
Does kingfisher support loading avif encoded images? I tried loading them but it didn't work and I renamed the image.avif to image.jpg (still avif encoded) and that worked, so got confused.

If kingfisher doesn't natively support loading avif, any plans on the roadmap?
