Smart Keyboard on iPad Pro

If I use Smart Keyboard, every time I press a key, the screen slides upward, as if it should need to move to show the touch keyboard.
Is there any way to avoid this?

I think this only occurs when the iPad is in landscape. If you start the app a fresh, put the iPad in portrait, and then run any disk image, you should be able to return your iPad to landscape from then onwards without this problem occurring.
