Some agent jobs duration report double or triple duration

I have a few long running jobs (over 6 hours) such as backups that report exactly double or triple the duration. e.g. 8 hour backup reports 16 hours or 24 hours. This is reflected in both reports and seems to effect jobs that cross over the midnight (day) into the next day. I also do not believe I have found a job that runs under an hour that behaves this way. After analyzing the script I'm not exactly sure what it could be.
