Wrong values ELLIPSE ECO 1200 #156

Hi !
Bad values reported from an EATON ELLIPSE ECO 1200, hooked to an ASUSTOR NAS model AS-302T.

badly reported values :

UPS charge : 18% / 0W (obviously not) ;
Battery voltage : 6V (this is my "low" set value. should be 12V) ;
Entry voltage : 200V (this is my "low" set value. Should be 220/230V) ;

All these values were correct on old WinNUT version (latest from the previous repo). They may have always been "absent" and displayed as "ideal default", as reported here (?)

Thanks again for putting up this information. And apologies, I forgot to mention one other step about the log file. Now that you have it enabled, I need to you disconnect and reconnect to your NUT server so that it will generate the information I need to see in the log file. Please upload that once you're done.

That's odd... Let me have you try this. Please double check that your Miscellanous options tab looks like this:

Then restart WinNUT completely. Afterwards, drag the log file over to a message window here and that will add it as an attachment.

That's it, thanks! So we can confirm that WinNUT wasn't able to find a suitable method for calculating power, which is why your power/load gauge isn't working. Looking at your available variables, I see a ups.power.nominal and an outlet.power, although it's not clear to me if outlet.power is measuring total power consumption across all outlets. Can you confirm for me if the number reported there is accurate to the power you're consuming?

25W seems quite low, considering I have a whole gaming PC, three desktop screens and a NAS behind :/
I have no time to measure the real power consumption now, but I'll try to do it in a few days.

I can estimate the idle power output is close to

200W for CPU + motherboard + SSD drives + RAM + GPU ;
200W for screens (2 x 55W + 90W) ;
30W for NAS
Total : ~430 W, so ~36%

However, please rest assured I'm quite pleased with the actual WinNUT features, which I can't get otherwise.

May I suggest the gauges that depend on disabled/unreadable values shouldn't be displayed, as they're displaying wrong values ?

I'm glad this is useful for you, and I appreciate you being involved here in the community. 😊

As far as getting a power reading in WinNUT, I'm afraid that may be impossible with what's currently available. I'd suggest looking into this further on the Network UPS Tools website if you want to see if you can get any more variables out of your UPS. You may want to start by updating to a later version of the upsd server, maybe with some kind of operating system beyond your NAS. Let me know if you want any help with that.

As for the gauges, excellent suggestion. I think you may want to at least subscribe to #136 where I'm tracking some issues related to the gauges, and please feel free to add any input there as well. I definitely want to fix the fact that the number displayed is wrong, but I also want to add some visual indicators to the gauge that indicate it's out of range. Maybe making the needle point slightly off-scale, and maybe a status indicator on the gauge as well. At some point I want to make gauges more customizable, and let the user choose which variables they want to display.

Well... As it is, WinNUT already gives me what I want : it will shut down the PC if the battery goes below 20%. That's almost all I need.
The UPS is hooked to a(n old) NAS that still does its job everyday, but don't receive firmware updates anymore. I could hook it to the PC, but that won't be as convenient, as I sometimes turn it off at night.

I can confirm the input voltage and battery voltage gauges will indicate any value set as "lowest" in config, down to 0 (it doesn't accept negative values, though).

Maybe you could just delete the needle indicator in case there is no value read ?
Or just display a sticker over the gauge saying 'No data', or something like that ?
