Session topic: onboarding

Experiences (good, maybe also bad?) with onboarding.

This idea came from talking to people like @luisaforozco who said how great the reusabilithon was as one of her first eScience experiences and @Cmurilochem who was mentioning how helpful pair programming was to him in his first days. I would love to hear more stories like this and hear about how others experienced their first months and what really helped them grow into their roles (or what prevented them).

When I started working here in 2019, the highlights of my onboarding consisted of:

• Studying the eScience guide. I found it quite good, although perhaps it is outdated by now.
• Learning from the closest lead engineer (@jhidding, in my case). Mostly via pair programming.
• Participating in the Advent of Code (seriously, this was a great learning tool).
