Check out https://github.com/leeoniya/uPlot and their example plot with 166k points. It's designed to use very little memory.

This might be a good alternative to our existing fMRIPlot line plots, but would need some fiddling. Could be a good, constrained project for a new contributor, or if anybody wants to spend a weekend/hackathon learning more javascript.
