Why not, as an alternative, a separator for the next message. Also optional?

I'd like to disagree with this too. I do think however that some kind of visual highlighting for messages sent by yourself would be good.

This is a feature that I would really like to implement. Any help with the design or implementation is welcome.

Of course this would be available as an option.
