(solved) Netgear A8000 (AXE3000) Help #386
-
Hey y'all, I just bought the Netgear A8000 (AXE3000) adapter. I've checked the lib/Mediatek folder and I have all the files, and I checked the mt7921 folder, and I see "mt7921u.ko". :~$ uname -r :~$ lsb_release -a I'm not sure why the adapter isn't working. Am I missing something? Any guidance or advice? |

Hmmm... that should work. Let's see: Run in a terminal and post the results: $ lsusb |

As expected.
Your system is installing the driver.
Opps. I should have posted: $ ethtool -i wlan0 wlan0 needs to be your interface name. Use the following to find the interface name: $ iw dev
What channel and what band is the AP/router using? You might try It is not obvious what is going on. As far as I can tell so far, the adapter and driver are working. Why you are not able to connect is not clear. |

Go to: Go down to section 3 and follow the instructions. This will update the firmware.
So, you have an adapter connected. Recommend you forget that connect and all others not related to your new adapter. Do you know how? |

Before upgrade:
After upgrade:
That is a nearly 2 year upgrade to the firmware. That is a really big upgrade as modern WiFi 6 adapters and drivers are very complicated. I think there have been around 10 upgrades to that firmware in the time span we are looking at so your system really needed that upgrade. It is not clear to me why Ubuntu is not flowing the upgrades into your system. They should be doing so. Maybe you should file a bug.
I'm glad that it is working now but it is not clear why removing the old adapter would have solved this problem, if it did. Do you mind telling us what adapter you removed? |

I just checked and the date on your original firmware supported the mt7921e (cards) but not the mt7921u (usb adapters) so the problem was the very dated firmware. I suggest you fill a bug with Ubuntu and explain that they need to be updating the Mediatek wireless firmware. Cheers, |
