The Quick Start seems to assume some previous steps

The quick start says

Add the following to your Gemfile:

Perhaps this is obvious to Ruby users, and/or experienced Jekyll users.

But how do I get my intial Gemfile?

So if I'm starting from scratch what do I do?

Is it just assumed that I'm doing

jekyll new my-new-project

Or is that at least a reasonable starting position?

I've searched the discussions for "Quick start", "quick-start", "quickstart" and didn't really find any such basic questions. All the existing questions assume you're already up and running.

For background I've used jekyll in two different blogs. But the instructions are always so varied especially over the years. I just want to know the "normal way" to get started.

Okay, I've read the top half of quick start numerous times. I'm now following the remote theme guidelines and scrolling further down the page I find
