Currently, closing a stream on the home page makes it take up to two seconds to visually disappear as the device only knows it's closed based on the next state polling cycle

Make the card simply disappear when you click the X on the frontend and let it take the up to 2 seconds for the other users to see the stream closed to stop providing the illusion of a slow system, call the polling function at time of state change to achieve this.
