I tried running one of the examples and get ioctl_set_msg failed:-1

Using hardware: PWM
PW increments: 10us
Initializing channel 0...
Requesting 139264 bytes
ioctl_set_msg failed:-1
mem_ref 139264
ioctl_set_msg failed:-1
bus_addr = 139264
virtbase 0x76618000
after init virtbaseadd_channel_pulse: channel=0, gpio=17, start=0, width=90
init_gpio 17

Which PI version do you use?
What is the exact hardware version?

Try one of the other branches / pull requests

beside that channel 0 might be a bad idea - try some other channels. especially if you run a installation with UI some channels should be avoided.
