TLS and SASL fail on trunk but TLS success on 1.4

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Compile version 1.4 or trunk
2. Run iksroster example with "-s -a -l" against openfire 3.7 server
3. TSL fails for trunk but is successful in 1.4.  SASL fails in both versions.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected TLS and SASL success in trunk.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Using trunk but tested 1.4 and even 1.3.  Ubuntu natty.

Please provide any additional information below.
