Check out seascapeR_v2 which allows using other polygons for seascape visualizations, in this case Marine Ecoregions of the World. Ad hoc directories with polygon files can be added as needed. The ones for MEOW are available in data_ss2.

I don't think we want to keep in the R package the extracted data in data_ss2/, but I do like the example in seascapeR_v2.Rmd.
It would be neat to show general methods for taking any spatial dataset at MarineRegions.org, especially with mregions, which I think includes MEOWs and demonstrate their similar extraction.
