Removal of unmaintained components for which there are better alternatives these days #2016

As discussed on the mailing list let's look at removing some components in Lift 5 where there may not be better / better maintained options now out in the wild. In particular:

  • Most of the persistence components
  • core/json-scalaz7
  • core/json in favor (potentially) of json4s.

TIL olon was a thing! I'll have to take a look at what they incorporated on top of our build. But yes, that's what I'm thinking.

Discussed out of band with @dpp and he indicated that, of the proposed removals, folks are likely getting the most use out of mapper at the moment and we may want to consider forking that out of the framework so it can live on independently. I'm supportive of this idea.
