Playing The Typing of the Dead works quite well but people having non-qwerty layout could benefit from an option in flycast allowing to change the keyboard layout.
I actually don't know how this is coded so there might be two or more explanations there :
Worst solution, the one that would cost more. It would be a Flycast feature : it's a JP and US game only so maybe there's nothing to do about it, except some « hack » to activate in Flycast to swap A and Q keys and so on (i.e. actually emulate different layouts from qwerty).
If it's a general Retroarch feature : if the Dreamcast keyboard is emulated by reading general Retroarch's keyboard input, then maybe there's an easy fix, because as stated here Cannot change keyboard layout/language RetroArch#13838 even with a properly configured, say fr, keyboard, retroarch would still see qwerty inputs. To check that, just bind some control to the "A" key on said keyboard, and Retroarch will show the binding as "q"... This happens at least in Retropie on a Raspberry Pi 4.
I don't know flycast code but if someone can guide me through and tell me where the Dreamcast keyboard is emulated I can maybe help and do my own version, if this feature request is refused.
Also if this is already possible and I don't know it, please tell me !
Thanks.
