all intellij projects hang and nothing is reacting anymore as soon as the preview is updated for more expensive computations.

You could try running the blocking computation in a dedicated thread...

Same for me. The only option is to start OpenSCAD separately, not from IDEA. Internal renderer doesn't work too but for (probably) different reason (It says it can't create /html directory).

I reverted to version of the plugin 2.2.0 which does not have this problem.

Versions I use:

  • Plugin version 2.3.3
  • IntelliJ IDEA 2022.3.2 (Ultimate Edition)
