I do really like this ascii table but I use it so infrequently I forget about the toggles. It would be nice to have some hint somewhere about the 6 keybindings in ascii-table-mode-map. Maybe a text line at the bottom of the table, or in a header-line, or at least some text in the mode docstring that's less cluttered than the \\{ascii-table-mode-map} that's there now.

Thanks. Would something like this in the header line be enough? ASCII Table (hex) -- b o d x -- e TAB

I think a little more would help. I wasn't sure if hex was on h or x and what you propose would solve that for me, but I wouldn't remember what e and TAB do. I'm currently playing with this:

  (setq header-line-format `("" header-line-indent "Toggles: b: binary, o:octal, d:decimal, x:hex, e:esc, TAB:ctrl"))

Looks reasonable. Perhaps that header line should be shown by default, and there should be a user option to hide it.
