The icons used in this theme are based on icons from multiple different open source icon sets. Most of the icons have been altered in some ways to create an overall harmonic theme.
There are two flavors:
- The "Graublau basic" flavor, which is mainly an icon theme, containing only little modifications of GTK styling.
- The "Graublau OSX" flavor, which additionally to the icons also implements some GUI styles (buttons, scrollbars, etc.) adapting the Gimp's look more to Mac OSX.
- Copy the Graublau (and/or Graublau-OSX) folder into the \Themes\ folder of your GIMP 2.8 installation.
- Start the GIMP and activate the theme by selecting it via: Edit > Preferences > Theme
- Restart GIMP for the theme to be activated
- Linux: (Run GIMP at least once to have the preference directory created, and than) Copy the theme into the (hidden) directory: \Home\.GIMP\.theme
- Windows: Copy the theme into: C: > Users > YOUR_USER_NAME > .gimp-2.8 > themes.
- Mac OS X using Finder: Open contents of GIMP application package. Navigato to: Contents > Resources > share > gimp > 2.0 > themes. Paste Graublau theme folder here.
For the main toolbox icons this theme contains a colored "active", and an "inactive" version, with the latter having been reduced to grayscale and opacity between 70% and 80%. Additionally, many of the icons used within the menus have been replaced.
To achieve optimal "crisp" icons with intact elements such as outlines, gradients, shadows, etc, down-scaling is done manually and not calculational. None of the icons has been scaled up.
To achieve an overall harmonic look, several icons have been adapted in some ways:
- Size and colors (main non-grey color is blueish now in all icons) adjusted
- Removed or replaced sub elements (arrows, shadows, etc.)
- Corrected contrast and brightness
- Added shadows
Icons from the original GIMP iconset that are used unchanged or with little adaptions to fit the theme are not listed in the following reference.
