Would it be possible to add the latest 3.0 changes here, and do a release?
It would also be nice to look at updating some of the packaging infrastructure (e.g. adding a pyproject.toml to specify build dependencies)?
Finally, maybe looking at replacing some of the code which duplicates astropy (e.g. the wcslib wrapper) with wrappers around astropy for backwards compatibility, so as to simply maintenance of the package, would be a good idea also. There's probably other aspects which can be replaced by calls to numpy/scipy.

This isn't quite what github comments are used for, but we've been having the same concerns about the state of Kapteyn and whether it will continue to updated. It's currently throwing deprecation warnings and the project we're working on depends on it. Since it seems to be empty here, have you found any alternatives that may replace the ability to make graticules?
We've been looking in LIGO skymap which seems to have its own code with similar functionality, although it isn't the same as Kapteyn. Thank you!
