How does the skin load

I've noticed so far that the loading hierarchy for widgets seems to be
submenu widgets > category widgets > side widgets > global widgets

Wondering @jurialmunkey, is this something you set yourself, or is it something to do with default programming from Kodi?

I'm asking because I have submenu widgets from a submenu linked to the last item in my sidemenu. They seem to load first before the widgets in my homepage category... I wonder if there's a way to tweak this and decide what loads first

It's not really possibly to control.

Kodi just loads all widgets in the order they appear in the skin code regardless of whether they are visible or not, so all the submenu widgets will load first as they appear at the top of the group. Then categories after, then sidemenu, then global.

Ohh nice... I don't really get the full picture though🤔🤔... how would you know the label/identification of the widgets... like which is A1 or B

Before all of the submenu widgets appeared before any category widgets in the group (then visibility determined what you could see). So as an extreme example, say you have 10 categories each with 10 submenus each with 10 submenu widgets. That's 1000 submenu widgets all loading first before even the first category widget loads.

Now it will only be those 10 submenus of 10 widgets loading for the 1st category, then all the 1st category widgets will load, then the next 10x10 submenu widgets for 2nd category and so on.

Yeah, I figured that one out... was pretty excited to spot this... Felt like i could control the loading speed based on priority... then submenu widgets came along 😅😅 and I just had to use it

So to follow on from this, that's what the change basically does -- brings it closer back to this order. Obviously all submenu widgets for the category need to be first, so can't do anything about that -- but it will at least limit it to the category first.

So does this mean if the first category doesn't have a submenu widget, It will load before the submenu widgets in the 2nd category
