Feature description

Omega added support for movie versions and the skin inherently supports it, but only the landscape view shows any differentiation between version items. Since there's only one view type for movies and my preference is Poster, switching between them to leverage versions is a major inconvenience. Adding a label that shows the version to the other viewtypes would be helpful.

Why is this feature needed? Please justify and explain.

I have a highly curated home library with probably seven different versions of Star Wars (1977), English and Japanese versions of the Ghibli films, and multiple black and white remasters (Fury Road Black and Chrome for example). It would be nice to fully incorporate these items into the library

You should be able to set different artwork per version in the manage versions dialog. That's how I differentiate the versions - though admittedly it's been a while since I set it up in my library.

I'm not a huge fan of overlaying text on top of the posters and I'm not sure how else you could differentiate them.

If you have codecs enabled, it should also show version type in the codecs for more of the standard ones (eg extended edition, bluray directors cut, special edition etc.) though not for custom ones of course.

I was reviewing options today before I was going to reply and the strangest things happened the first time I brought up Star Wars (one of the movies in the use case); A version select dialog appeared! I don't know how I triggered it, and I couldn't get it to appear again, but that would be the perfect solution if you have that level of control on the view. Estuary handles versions by replacing the item title with the version title when you navigate into the set, which would be the secondary preference. Best option would be a label under the poster, but I'd assume that that view is common throughout and might break spacing.

Version titles are not standardized, they are things like Specialized, Despecialized, Revisited, 4k77, etc. Most of my Star Wars versions do have some form of custom art, but the assets don't provide enough differentiation or context.

Alright, the version select dialog appears consistently if I set "Show videos with multiple versions as a folder" to off under Media Settings > Video. It would be nice to have functional paririty with Estuary with the version folders if it's something you have time for.

Problem with this approach is that it doesn't work with clearlogos, which is what I expect most people likely use in the skin, and it wouldn't want to make the text inconsistent with how the logo works since text will be used as a fallback for items without logos.

Yeah there's not space there for it. Plus it will just get in the way / be overlapped by the indicators on the bottom of the posters.

One idea I did have was to use the top banner similar to how "Season Premiere" etc. works but I'm not sure if I'm a fan (I think I'd prefer to just edit the poster images myself and add my own custom banners). I've added the option anyway in this commit (in the indicator options section) as not difficult and it is at least consistent with other features in the skin 2680166

If you use text based footer it will display underneath (I know might not be what you're looking for but its an option)

You can also see the version name in info dialogs (just if it's part of a collection then it gets bumped down a place because order is Director, Writer, Studio, Collection, Version and there's only four slots visible).

Your commit is perfect. It also has the benefit of bringing at least some indicator of version up to the widget level.

Now I just need to sit down and figure out how to deal with the fan art assignments.

I think this discussion is close to what I was suggesting. I was looking at the Version Manager window thinking it was not that great.

A revision that focuses more on the poster art, and can scroll right and left, instead of displaying versions as a list that scrolls up and down. I don't like using the thumbnail art as an option because most movies don't have good thumbnails as options, whereas the poster is a much more flexible way to differentiate.
