I would add @johnnyman727 and see if they have the bandwidth to support it. They have all the parts we need, and my original idea of building a web-connected raised bed is pretty straight forward.
We will break the folks into a few mini teams:
Bed constructions team
a bit of woodwork
a bit of irrigation - need to find a simple small pump for water and fertilizer. Should be pretty easy hooked to two small buckets (5gl)
a bit of hoops - build a hoop system with frost cover on a track and garage door motor
bonus round: heat mats under the dirt
bonus round: live webcam
Tessel team
wire up the pumps and motor
setup sensors for humidity, temp (air and dirt), wind (?), light, (other ideas?)
write web server hooked into all the sensors and motors with APIs for everything
Web team
build a website showing the bed and all element
UX for controlling the elements
alerts for events (rain, frost, dry dirt)
automatic response (cover at night or at temp)
We need at least 20 people to make this work in one day. I can work out a detailed budget but something like:
Bed construction - $300
Motors - $500
Irrigation - $200
Heat mats - $200
Hoops - $200
Tessels - ?
Some node-capable server for the bed - $500 (?)
The main concern is if we do a hapi conf the same time, Ben and me will be very busy with that production so this will need someone else to carry it. I will certainly help and I think with the Tessel this is much easier to accomplish this year. This plan is the full thing - we can trim it down.
@hueniverse @nvcexploder do we think that we can pull it off this time?
