Publish a file with IPFS using a pinning service

So I wanted to try this cool decentralized filesystem but the starting guide is essentially:

• go to the particuar website
• put your credit card data there

is this the intended representation? I do realize there are ways to use IPFS without giving your credit card data to the web3.storage
