👉️ Please describe what you were doing when this error happened.

I just downloaded IPFS for mac, but am unable to open it. Every time I try I get the message 'IPFS desktop has shutdown because of an error'. Is there any way I can fix this?

Thanks for submitting this issue @bronzeagepuppy, is this the first time you downloaded ipfs-desktop? Can you check if ~/.ipfs directory exists? It sounds like you have a missing/corrupt config which is not being read properly? Removing ~/.ipfs directory and restarting might help.

But before you do that can you please attach additional logs that can be found here so that it can be diagnosed better. Also, share the findings after removing the ~/.ipfs dir.

@bronzeagepuppy FYI, the version of Darwin showing for require('os').release() for you indicates you might be on macOS Sierra, which is not supported. You can see ipfs/npm-kubo#57 for more information.
