Poor (too wide) kerning for certain combinations of capitals

Especially AVA, LY, OWO, OVO, YAY, AC, UA, AWA, LW, JA, DA, PA, BA, OA, AG, DW. Basically anything with A, V, W, Y.

that's very weird. The nongoogle version has okay kerning...

Either GF is outdated or something weird is going on in the nongf to gf conversion.

I will look into this!

in the meantime you can pull from the indestructible type* website should look okay.

I was using the files from a ZIP download from GitHub. Your image sample demonstrates the same kerning problem (in my opinion). The problem is worse at heavier weights and smaller optical sizes (see image below). Strangely, other typefaces demonstrate a similar kerning issue, but some do not, and some DO tightly kern AVA and AWA, as I would expect. Take the word HAWAII. For example, the Linotype Didot that comes from the Supplemental fonts from my Mac has this problem (looks like three words), but Fira Sans (any weights) does not—it looks like one word. This image shows out-of-the-box kerning, no manual changes.

Perhaps I am overstepping my expertise here (you obviously have more type design experience than me) and this might be an aesthetic area I am wrong about, but I think if it looks wrong it is wrong? (Meaning Linotype Didot that lives in the TTC file is improperly kerned.)

I will take a look at this. It might take a while. Once again, the kerning looks okay on the version that I have. Attached is the 06 point fatface/black weight. It may be more loosely kerned than is your aesthetic preference, but you will agree that it is better then in the image you have provided, so at the very least something is going wrong somewhere in the pipeline.

I will look into this when I have the time.

Thank you for considering this. It looks like the kernings on the capitals is simply completely missing in the build I was testing and the one live on Google Fonts. Some vertical overlap of the A and W is a lot better than none!
