In the past, SAS data have been published and are available through EMODNET:

  1. European Seabirds at Sea (ESAS) bird sightings from 1980 to 2003 Now updated to point to the full official ESAS dataset we publish through https://github.com/EMODnet/esas2obis
  2. European Seabirds at Sea - data collected by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO), Belgium Deleted, data is included in 1
  3. European seabirds at sea - JNCC all trips To be decided and kept for now, overlaps with ESAS to a large extend. Linked to as source dataset from 1

These data can be downloaded through http://www.emodnet-biology.eu/toolbox/en/toolbox/occurrence/explore (search for "seabirds"), but they are currently not on GBIF: http://www.gbif.org/dataset/search?q=seabirds, although that is the plan.

I downloaded the data for INBO (second dataset): 20160930_101523_157ee2c1de1af6.csv.zip

Would be good to review:

  • What was published (scope)
  • If it will be included in our publication
  • How we can avoid duplicate records
  • What format was chosen
