View options

Video replay (obviously :-)

• Source: own libraries, shared libraries, channels

Limitation

• stacked video: "resume" doesn't jump into subsequent parts.

Subtitles

Options

• PlexConnect: External SRT subtitle files provided by PMS are recoded to JSON, and overlaid during video replay.
• iOS: aTV natively deals with embedded subtitles (m4v files, m3u8 streaming).
• PMS: Burns in subtitle text to the video stream. Requires a full transcode of the video (decoding, modifying, re-encoding).

Limitation

• PlexConnect subtitles might get out of sync when pausing, winding. Seems to happen with transcoded files only. PMS/transcoder issues?

Music replay

• Source: own libraries, shared libraries, channels

Limitation

• multiple tracks in a row need iOS7.0 or later. Earlier iOS doesn't provide the XML audio player interface, the old style PLIST player was never quite understood (yeah, missing documentation)...

Playlists

• show, use playlists held on PMS
• play all, shuffle

Limitation

• no playlist modification (eg. create new, add items)
• shuffle video will start with first item, then shuffle afterwards.

Fanart, Backgrounds

Prerequisite

• iOS6.0 or later
• PIL/Pillow installed for merging fanart with gradient templates.

MyPlex & Plex Home

• provides client authentication when poking your PMS
• browse shared libraries, show shared content

Limitation

• no fast user switching
• no support for 4-digit myPlex sign in
