Fail on special but valid characters in patterns #37

We have some special use cases where some patterns (and file names) have |, { and } in them. We are getting errors like

unexpected character '|' at position 42

I think we should allow these characters.

References:

gitignore patterns section doesn't list these characters as having any special behavior.
