Here and there a duck sits huddled on a piling watching the more daring pigeons swoop down and grab scraps dropped by passersby.</description>

Broken planks strafe the pier to which massive barges are tied on listing mooring rails which might tumble over at any moment.  The aged wood buckles easily beneath your feet, but apparently is tough enough to withstand the heavy cargo off-loaded each day.  Several bystanders mill about, checking their precious shipments as they wait for the next barge.</description>
    <description>The waters of the Gwenalion lap gently against the pilings beneath this rickety pier.  Huge gaps in the broken wood let up tangy scents of damp peat mixed with a distinctively colorful yet indeterminate odor.  Swathed in silence and darkness, the wharf seems derelict and abandoned, hardly suggestive of the activity which takes place upon it when the sun touches the sky.</description>

So dense is the forest that steam rises from its floor, hanging as a still mist which threatens to obscure the faint path.  Eerie wails, moans and hisses echo forth from the deep shadows, bending the imagination toward the hideous and threatening.</description>

    <description>The first of the massive barges to traverse Lake Gwenalion, Theren's Star still maintains a quiet elegance despite its apparent age.  The utilitarian deck upon which casual travelers walk is spartan, but the decking is made of expensive tabor wood felled from far southern forests.  An oval doorway leads down to the barge's cargo bay, while an elaborately-carved wooden door provides ingress to the comfortably appointed lounge.</description>

    <description>Gurgling sounds come from the water flowing past the embankment as it wends its way through the trees towards the distant lake.  The constant humidity fosters the growth of luxuriant moss on the trunks, giving them a fuzzy appearance much like that of an animal's pelt.</description>

    <description>Trees thin as the forest approaches a stream flowing within steep embankments.  The sounds of rushing water fill the area, a deep musical splash and bubble sound underlaid with a deep occasional rumble.  The noise of the brook covers all other sounds of the woods, obscuring the passage of both humanoids and beasts.</description>

    <description>Clusters of trees clump together, as if each parent tree is surrounded by a horde of offspring that are seeking to protect their elder from harm.  Between the clusters of trunks, the ground is covered with low shrubs and other underbrush.  The rustle of leaves and twigs testify to the passage of numerous small animals as they scurry in search of food.</description>

    <description>Colossal trunks rise from the leaf-covered ground, rising seemingly effortlessly to the distant sky with outstretched limbs and branches.  Little of the sky is visible, most of it blocked by the thick foliage above.  Dangling from the distant branches are wispy strands of moss that help obscure the vault of the heavens.</description>

    <description>Something long ago brought down one of the forest giants, allowing a break in the canopy.  The rotting remains of the fallen titan lie on the forest floor, half-covered in rotting leaves and burgeoning vegetation.  The distant sounds of nightbirds ring through the open space, welcome in the silence of the forest.</description>
