Git Commands

Command Description
git config --global http.sslVerify false To avoid SSL certificate problem: Unable to get local issuer certificate
git config --global user.name "[username]" configure the username
git config --global user.email "[email]" configure the email
git config --global color.ui auto configure colors
git config --global alias.c "commit -ma" configure alias for git commands
git config --system core.editor vim configure the text editor like VIM
git commit -a --allow-empty-message -m '' To do an empty commit message
git config --global http.sslVerify false To set the SSL verify false
git remote prune origin To delete the branch locally which is not available in remote
git -b checkout < new_branch_name > To create a new branch and checkout the same
git update-index --assume-unchanged < file > To ignore a changed file
git update-index --no-assume-unchanged < file > To revert that ignorance by the previous command
Squashing for Upstream git fetch upstream
git checkout <your branch>
git rebase -i upstream/master

choose squash for commits which needs to be squashed

git push origin <your branch> -f
git branch -m new-name Rename your local branch
git branch -m old-name new-name Rename your local branch when on a different branch
git push origin :old-name new-name Delete the old-name remote branch and push the new-name local branch
git push --delete origin tag-name Remove remote tag
git tag -d tag-name Remove local tag
git fetch origin && git rebase origin/master Rebase local branch with remote master
git commit --amend Edit commit message if needed
git branch --track branch-name remote-git/branch use local branch to track remote git branch
git merge origin/master --allow-unreleted-histories force unrelated histories branches to merge
