For Arch users having trouble with installing prerequisites.

This worked for me:

sudo pacman -S alsa-lib mesa libx11 libxrandr libxi libxcursor libxinerama libxkbcommon libwayland --needed

I did not need wayland-protocols to get the "my first window" to run. The --needed on the end will keep you from reinstalling packages that are already on your system.
