icloud V3.1 new install – Apple user ID/password flagged as invalid no message sent to Apple re attempted login

I have installed V3.1 eleased on 20241104 on this ubuntu machine and a RPI based one and tried two different Apple user IDs with both normal and App specific passwords but all produce the error

❌ Entry Error, Invalid Username or Password

All combinations of user/password work successfully logging into https://www.icloud.com/ on a PC

Note the screens presented by V3.1 are much changed from the documentation but basically I am accepting the frst 2 screens with no changes and then attempting to log in on the "Update Apple Account Username/Password" screen

If there is anything else that would help you explore this let me know.

Apple does not support app specific passwords on programs accessing the Apple Account on web based applications only on iDevice apps. You will have to use your real p/w. Apple went with the Secure Remote Password so your p/w never leaves your device.

I have the exact same issue. Went about in changing my apple id password as I was not getting account verification codes anymore. it still doesn't work - even with this new password .... sigh

One day to another icloud3 v3 stopped logging in at apple uer accout. Sorry, but it is more and more annoying getting problems with this software. How to fix it? Where can I change uername and password for my Apple account in icloud3?
