Can the setup of eslint be made easier?

Hi Gatsby Community

I know people work very hard on open source projects like Gatsby so thank you for all your hard work.

I've just using Gatsby after a few years of not using React. Things have changed a lot in that time so I feel like I'm starting from scratch.

I've spent a lot of time trying setup Eslint, so I can run it as a step in my CI/CD pipeline and I have now given up.
Some of the problems I've faces are

• The version of Eslint in Gatsby is pretty old now and not compatible with the latest version of some plugins
• Changes required in the gatsby-config.js file

I wondering if this could be made simpler for developers to customise the rules and add plugins?

Maybe having Eslint setup for the local environment out of the box?
