Waveshare recommends to use the https://github.com/waveshare/LCD-show repository.

Currently it is not compatible with https://www.waveshare.com/w/upload/0/00/LCD-show-170703.tar.gz:

  • "rotation" defintions differ
  • touch events are mirrored: A touch to the bottom right corner issues an event to the upper left corner
  • GUI shows up but is replaced with a black screen

Currently there seems to be no need to support the GH repository but use the well tested LCD setup script.

Another (maintained) alternative: https://github.com/goodtft/LCD-show/
No need to switch now, just a reminder

Recent Raspberry Pi OS versions (kernel > 5.xx.yy) don't seem to work with the current setup with https://www.waveshare.com/w/upload/0/00/LCD-show-170703.tar.gz

I think it's time to bite the bullet and switch to https://github.com/goodtft/LCD-show/
