Background

There are various working groups in the Filecoin community. The intent of this issue is to establish a directory of these working groups and best practices.

For now, I'm just using this to jot down thoughts/notes, and then will translate it to specific actions.

Brainstorm

Working Group Best Practices

  1. Make clear what the working group is for and what it's not for.
  2. Have an archive of meeting notes
  3. Each meeting note should link to the recording
  4. Runbook for running the meeting
    1. Pre meeting steps
      1. Preparing notes
      2. Preparing for recording
    2. Post meeting steps
      1. Publish the recording
      2. Announce the meeting
  5. Document meta things
    1. Who are the owners
    2. Who has the ability to adjust calendar/luma
    3. What has the ability to access Zoom recording or publish to YouTube
  6. Where to go to ask any questions
  7. YouTube playlist dedicated to the working group

Working Group Ideas

  1. Create a Luma calendar for "Filecoin Working Groups" that can aggregate events across working groups. (Each working group should still have its own calendar.)

List of Working Groups

  1. Filecoin Implementers: https://lu.ma/filprotocoldev
  2. Core Devs: https://github.com/filecoin-project/core-devs
  3. IPC?
  4. PMF Metrics?

Open Areas to Dive Into More

  1. Tooling - build out a decision-table like https://libp2p-security-wg.notion.site/Public-Home-5e7afc2205bb462f88c77f6c1a9c12d9?pvs=4 covering options
    1. Pure GitHub
    2. GitHub + HackMD
    3. Notion

Hi @abhi8960git . Thanks for the Ethereum reference. We want to accomplish something similar where we have best practices and ideally a template to follow and a self-service way for interested parties to find the relevant working groups. I think https://github.com/ethereum/pm/ is a good pattern to follow. My only concerns with it is that maybe not all working groups want to fully live in GitHub because it's not the best for real-time collaborative editing or commenting on a document.

2024-10-23 personal note:
There are working groups listed in https://www.fil.org/blog/filecoin-foundation-quarterly-update-october-2024
The SPWG holds weekly calls to discuss the latest developments for Filecoin Storage Providers.
The DevWG is a space to connect with developers, community members, researchers, and others interested in the development of new tools, technologies, and use cases that leverage the Filecoin protocol.
The DCWG welcomes participants to share their data upload experiences, identify hurdles and solutions for uploading data, and discuss how the Filecoin ecosystem can support data onboarding.
