License? #1

Well I'm looking for a do-mostly-whatever-the-expletive-you-want-with-it kind of license with this old code, but not really finding an exact match (MIT? Apache? BSD-3?... :/). Basically, I'm content with people copying functions and whole files for whatever means they want in open and closed projects, private or commercial, no attribution even needed; but forking the whole project and claiming it as your own would be frowned on. So I added MIT license with slight modification to make it more permissive (people are free to copy snippets and files without attribution, just not the whole project). |
Yes - MIT is good, Apache better (because patent protections)
|
Can you elaborate on the patent protections bit? Note I'm not working on Microsoft DirectWrite anymore, and so the impetus for me to add any new features is low, but I'm glad for anyone to get use out of the utilities. |
IANAL but the gist is: if the code does something that's covered by a
patent, users of the code get a patent license, but if they use one of
their patents against the project, they lose it. Since this is a small
project, I expect this is all irrelevant.
