Considerations for power draw towards selection of power units for boats:

  • Distance across from Samil to Cangas is aprox. 5km, depending on crossing positions. Estimate 3 nautical miles of minimum required autonomy, @ 2 - 3 knots => approx. 1 1/2h
  • To be confirmed (probably with someone that has more experience in these size motors) to maintain a cruise speed of 2 - 3 knots, an efficiently and well dimensioned motor/ prop would be around 4 - 5 Amps
  • 5 Amps x 1.5h = approx. 7.5 Ah battery capacity required, not counting power draw from electronics. Minimum spec battery with these considerations would be in the 8000 mAh range (Hobbyking 8000 mAh , for example)
  • Battery can be housed inside the canting keel to drop the weight lower and increase stability
  • Selected motors should be of low kV (i.e. lower rpms, more torque), probably < 500 KV? Drone motors are not a good choice
  • With the power draw specifications mentioned, almost any reversible esc should be acceptable, for example HobbyKing 30A Boat ESC 3A UBEC or Seaking 30A
