Many thanks the organizers and maintainers of this GitHug repository for the ample information provided. Our group recently followed the instructions in the Quick Start Guide to manufacture our first set of DIGITs.
There were a few instructions regarding the gel manufacturing we had difficulty with, that we would appreciate further clarification.
In 6.1 (Preparing the white paint mixture) Step 3, the instruction reads: "thin out the mixture to 20% of the total weight using NOVACS." We had difficulty interpreting and understanding this instruction. We tried several different things and were unable to determine the meaning of this sentence. Ultimately, we ended up comparing the viscosity of the Inhibit-X with this mixture, and kept adding NOVACS until they were similar. Then, we were finally able to get it to spray properly out of the airbrush. We would appreciate clarification on this step and how to more precisely thin out the mixture, and that this clarification be added to the Quick Start Guide.
Also in 6.1 (Preparing the white paint mixture) it explicitly states to mix equal parts of A/B of solution Eco-Flex 00-10. Then later, in 6.2 (Manufacturing the DIGIT Gel), it simply said "apply Solaris 10A", which we incorrectly assumed meant only part A of the Solaris silicone since there was no mention of mixing both parts together. Therefore, we would like to recommend that consistent wording be used throughout the document, so future DIGIT makers are not confused as we were.
Finally, we would like to recommend a slight re-ordering of the instructions in the Quick Start Guide. 6.1 (preparing the white paint mixture) instructions are listed first, and 6.2 (manufacturing the digit gel) are listed second). However, the DIGIT gel takes 24 hours to cure. After 24 hours, our white paint mixture had hardened and was no longer usable. Perhaps, it would make more sense in between Step 2 and 3 of manufacturing the DIGIT gel?
Thank you very much in advance for addressing our concerns and letting us know the answers to our question above. Many thanks for maintaining this space for manufacturing open-source tactile sensors!
